I’m really interested in business and entrepreneurship, and I love learning how people start their own journeys. Today, I got to interview my Mum, Anita D. Marshall, a Soul Alignment Life and Business Coach who helps people live and work in a way that feels more balanced, meaningful, and full of energy.
Here’s what I learned from our chat:
What is your business?
My Mum runs her own coaching business called Anita D Marshall Coaching. She works with people who want to reconnect with their purpose and build a life or business that feels true to who they really are.
She calls herself a Soul Alignment Life and Business Coach, which means she helps people listen to their intuition, understand their energy, and make decisions that feel aligned — not just logical. Her clients include people who run their own businesses or are going through life changes and want more confidence, clarity, and calm.
How did you get started?
Anita told me that she didn’t start out as a coach. She used to work in other jobs but always felt there was something more she was meant to do. Over time, she realised that people naturally came to her for guidance and clarity — and that helping them reconnect with their purpose lit her up inside.
That’s when she began studying coaching and spiritual practices, eventually turning it into her full-time business. She said it felt like following “a calling rather than a career path.”
Why did you choose business ownership over employment?
Anita said that having her own business gives her the freedom to work in a way that feels right for her — not just how someone else tells her to. She wanted to build something that matched her values, where she could create real impact and have the flexibility to live life in a more balanced way.
She also believes that when you work for yourself, you learn so much about who you are — it’s a journey of growth on every level.
What is the best thing about being a business owner?
“The best thing,” Anita said with a smile, “is the freedom to create.”
She loves being able to design her work around her energy and purpose, and she enjoys meeting people from all over the world who are ready to grow spiritually and professionally. She also said that every day feels different — some days are creative, some are deeply reflective, and others are about celebrating her clients’ breakthroughs.
What is the most challenging part of it?
Anita was really honest about this part. She said that being a business owner means you have to wear many hats — from marketing to finances to client work.
Sometimes, it can feel like a lot to manage, especially when things don’t go to plan. But she’s learned that challenges are also great teachers. “Each time something doesn’t work out, it helps me refine who I am and how I want to show up,” she said.
What advice would you give to someone young looking to become a business owner?
Anita’s advice was so encouraging! She said:
“Start small, stay curious, and trust your instincts. You don’t have to have it all figured out — you just have to take the first step.”
She also reminded me that mindset is everything. Believing in yourself, learning from mistakes, and surrounding yourself with positive people makes a big difference.
And she said, “If you can find what makes you feel alive and find a way to share that with others, that’s the beginning of your purpose.”
Do you have a favourite blog, YouTube or an offer you’d like to share with my audience?
Anita told me about her S.A.C.R.E.D. Re-Energise programme, which helps people reconnect with their energy and restore balance when life feels overwhelming.
She also shares lots of inspiring blog posts on her website about intuition, soul-led business, and living with purpose — great for anyone who loves learning about mindset and personal growth.
How can people find you?

Talking to Anita made me realise that business isn’t just about money — it’s about meaning. She shows that success can be spiritual too, and that when you listen to your intuition, amazing things can happen.
