Scout Jamboree 2027 Poland
Scout Jamboree

A Journey of a Life Time

I am super excited because I have been selected to represent Bedfordshire County Scouts at the 26th World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027! 🎉

It’s honestly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity — Scouts only get to go to a World Jamboree once, and I’m one of just 36 Scouts from Bedfordshire who were chosen to be part of the UK Contingent. That means I’ll be joining tens of thousands of Scouts from over 170 countries for two weeks of camping, learning, adventure, and friendship — all in one incredible event! So I’m now fundraising so I can make the most of this incredible opportunity!

I wanted to tell you why this is so special to me, what the Jamboree means, and what’s involved, so that you know why I’m asking for your support.

Beyond Limits: Building future skills for a scout with Autism through the World Scout Jamboree

I have Level 1 Autism and though overall I manage with a low level of support, it does mean I struggle and have challenges in certain areas of life that cause difficulties. The World Scout Jamboree has a structured programme of outdoor learning, teamwork, and cultural exchange and through training and participation, it will help me develop confidence, independence, leadership, and communication skills.

“Being autistic is part of who I am, but it doesn’t define what I can achieve. I want to go to the World Scout Jamboree to challenge myself, make new friends from around the world and to build my skills. I hope I can inspire other young people to believe in themselves too.”

What is a “Jamboree”?

A Jamboree is a huge gathering of youth from around the world who are part of the Scout movement. The 2027 one is bringing together thousands of young people in Poland. On the official site they describe it as “the largest global outdoor youth event”. jamboree2027.org

It’s not just camping – it’s an adventure full of learning, friendship, service and culture.

Why is the Jamboree so special and important?

  • Global friendship: I’ll be meeting kids from many countries, learning from their stories, sharing mine and discovering how we’re connected even though we might come from very different places.
  • Adventure & growth: There will be outdoor activities, challenges, and new experiences that help me grow in confidence, resilience and leadership. The Jamboree site lists “Adventure Activities” and “Cultural Exchanges” among its programme highlights.
  • Values in action: It’s not just about fun — the gathering is driven by the Scout Promise and Law, and emphasises ethical standards, sustainability and global citizenship.
  • Memories and stories for life: Being part of such a major event will be something I remember forever — and it will shape how I move forward in life and in my service to others.

What is involved (how I’ll participate)

Here’s a breakdown of what I’ll be doing, preparing and experiencing:

  • Registration & selection: I’ve been chosen to be part of our national contingent, which means I’ll need to meet certain requirements (scouting, readiness, maybe training) and make sure everything is in place for travel.
  • Getting ready: There will be a lot of pre-event camping and other events to prepare us and learn the skills needed for the Jamboree.
  • I’ll need to prepare gear, pack for being outdoors, understand what’s required (tents, camping clothing, weather gear, maybe cultural items), and learn about the host country (Poland) and what to expect.
  • At the Jamboree:
    • I’ll stay at the camp site and take part in the Jamboree’s programme — activities like opening ceremony, cultural events, outdoor and adventurous challenges. For example, “Main Events” and “Cultural Exchanges” are listed as part of the site’s programme.
    • I’ll meet fellow Scouts from lots of countries, share ideas, take part in teamwork, and maybe earn badges or awards.
    • I’ll also learn about sustainability and how our actions matter to the world — the site emphasises “Our Commitment to Sustainability”.
  • Giving back: The Jamboree isn’t only about receiving, it’s about contributing — helping others, being part of a community, showing respect for people and planet.
  • Coming home and sharing: After it’s over, I’ll have stories to tell, maybe share what I learned with my scout group, family and friends, and apply what I experienced into everyday life.

Why I’m fundraising

Attending an event this big involves costs – ÂŁ3500 to be exact in the case of the UK, for travel, equipment, participation fees, preparation. Your support would really help me make this once-in-a-lifetime experience happen, helping me with gear, travel or registration costs.

Every donation, large or small, means a lot. And if you’d like, I’d love to share a short update on what I’m doing there.
